Q. What is CrossFit
A. CrossFit is an extremely efficient and effective way to get into world-class shape. CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.
The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.
Thousands of athletes worldwide have followed our workouts posted daily on this site and distinguished themselves in combat, the streets, the ring, stadiums, gyms and homes. We also publish the CrossFit Journal, designed to support the CrossFit community detailing the theory, techniques, and practice d by our coaches in our gym, in essence bringing your garage or gym into ours, making you a part of the CrossFit family.
We offer seminars, trainer certifications, and training and regularly provide consultation services to athletic teams, coaches, and police and military agencies throughout the free world.

Q. Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?
A. No. Our workouts and exercises scale to any level.
Q. I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?
A. Many people have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises, to tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.
Q. How do I start?
A. Come on down for a taste of CrossFit workouts at one of our FREE Saturday classes (see below) and find out if CFEV might be a good fit for you.
Q. Is there a free beginners’ class?
A. Yes. We offer FREE beginners’ classes on Saturdays at 10am, 11am, and 12pm. Come attend one to see if CrossFit is what you’re looking for.
Q. CFEV looks great, how do I join as a member?
A. First you must complete the three Foundations Class series.
Q. Can I come and observe before participating?
A. Yes! Just give us a call or stop by and we can set up a time and let you see for yourself what CrossFit is all about.
Q. I’m really fit and would like to skip the Foundations Classes and come to the Workout of the Day (WOD) class, can I do that?
A. Yes and No. There are no drop-ins to the WOD classes until you complete either our Foundations Class series or test out with a trainer before being allowed to take WOD classes. Additionally, once you become a member you will have access to open use of the gym any time from 6am to 9pm M-F as long as you don’t interfere with the WOD classes.
Q. Will CrossFit make me bulky?
A. Only if you want it to. At CFEV we can craft your workouts to whatever your fitness goals may be. This means that regardless of the type of body you are striving for, we can help you work towards it.
Q. I’m just visiting San Diego, but I’ve been CrossFitting for so long that I do kipping pullups in my sleep. Can I please come to a WOD class?
A. We welcome CrossFitters from all over the world. Just stop in and one of our trainers will have you working out in no time.
Q. I just relocated to San Diego, but I’ve been CrossFitting so long that I named my kids “Fran” and “Helen”. Can I please come to a WOD class?
A. See above.
Q. How much do the Foundations Classes cost?
A. 3 sessions for $150. Unlimited Workout of the Day classes and unlimited open gym use begins immediately upon successful completion of the Foundations Classes.
Q. What does the Foundations Class series cover?
A. The basics movements of CrossFit that are fundamental to nearly all workouts. They include the slow lifts: Squat, Front-Squat, Over Head Squat, Shoulder Press, Push Press Deadlift and more.
Q. Why do the Foundations Class series cost so much?
A. We limit the class size to no more than 5 people. However, a lot of the time we teach Foundations on a one on one basis. Each class is taught by a CrossFit certified coach. A similar workshop covering similar material would cost you $300-$500 for one day and you would not get nearly the same level of attention.
Q. What if I can’t fit one of the Foundations Classes into my schedule? Do you do Private Foundations Classes?
A. Absolutely. Email us at info@crossfiteastvillage.com for more info or to set something up.
Q. What if I don’t want to join CrossFit East Village but would prefer to strictly work with one of your trainers one-on-one?
That’s totally fine! Let us know and we can help you get set up with the trainer of your choice.
Q. Do you take credit cards, cash, and personal checks?
A. We accept cash, MasterCard, Visa and American Express.
Q. Can I have a receipt?
A. Yes you can – printed, emailed or both.
Q. How much is a membership?
A. Once you have successfully completed our Foundations Classes, you can become a regular member. We charge $85/month with an annual contract, or $95/month without a contract for unlimited classes and unlimited open gym, 7 days a week. Further, if you’d rather pay a drop-in fee instead of become a member, classes are $10 each. We also offer weekly memberships for $50.
Q. Do you offer discounted membership to full-time students, active military, police officers, and firefighters?
A. No. We keep all of our pricing low which means that everybody gets the same significantly less expensive rate than anywhere else around town.
Q. Do you sell t-shirts?
A. Yes! Stop in and buy one today.
Q. Do you have showers?
A. Yes we do! We also have three private changing rooms.
Q. Can I just come to CFEV and work out on my own?
A. Yes you can. We offer open gym from 6am to 9pm M-F, 10-5 Sat., & 11-5 Sun. for members who have completed their Foundations Classes as well as offering classes and one-on-one sessions, where people work out under trainer supervision, as it yields better, safer, and faster results than having people simply use the facility by themselves.
Q. Do you guys have Yoga?
A. Yes! We offer yoga for members Monday through Thursday in the mornings at 8am & evenings at 6pm and 7pm. There is no yoga on Saturdays or Sundays. If you are not a member, you can pay the drop-in rate of $10 per class to attend yoga.
